EC Meets Reps Of ‘Special Voters’

Sylvia Annor

The Electoral Commission (EC) yesterday met representatives of the security agencies, political parties and the media over the special voting which would take place before the December 7 polls.

Personnel of some state agencies, whose Election Day duties require that they vote earlier, have been processed by the EC under a ‘special voters’ arrangement.

The meeting yesterday was informed by the need to streamline possible challenges that could be associated with the process.

Speaking to the DAILY GUIDE yesterday after the engagement, Mrs. Sylvia Annor of the EC, said this was the first time that the EC had met with representatives of special voters ahead of the polls.

The meeting provided an opportunity for possible issues to be explained to the special voters.

The representatives from the media and security agencies whose personnel would be engaged on Election Day duties were provided with both hard and soft copies of the list of those who were in the special voting category and the locations where they would exercise their franchise.

She was quick to add, however, that special voters would not find their names in the list of those who would be voting in the constituencies where they registered earlier.

“Such names fall under the absent voters list,” she explained, adding that such persons cannot vote on December 7, having had their names already captured on the special voters’ grouping.

Requests for the details of personnel of agencies who would be on duty on Election Day were demanded by the EC earlier for processing.
