The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that all necessary arrangements have been made for the upcoming district-level elections scheduled for Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
Over 66,000 individuals are vying for assembly and unit committee positions in this crucial local poll.
According to statistics provided by the Electoral Commission, there are a total of 18,755 candidates contesting for assembly member positions, while 47,502 candidates are competing for unit committee member positions.
These numbers add up to a staggering 66,257 candidates.
This electoral contest will take place across 6,215 electoral areas within 216 metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies.
Dr. Sereboe Quarcoo, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, expressed confidence in the preparedness of the Commission to effectively organize the elections.
He assured the public that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure a seamless electoral process.
Dr. Quarcoo emphasized that, apart from the ballot papers, all other electoral materials have been adequately supplied to the polling stations.
He further stated that the EC does not rely on partial deliveries but rather ensures full delivery of materials to avoid any shortages. However, in the event of any unforeseen shortages, the district offices are ready to swiftly address the issue.
Dr. Quarcoo said, “With the exception of ballot papers, all the materials are there, and when we are going, we don’t go with partial delivery; we go with full delivery, so we are not expecting to have shortages. All things being equal, in case there are shortages, the district office will respond to such shortages.”
The District Assembly Elections, being a crucial component of local governance, have gained significant attention from candidates and voters alike.
