ECG Gets Acting MD

David Asamoah

David Asamoah has been nominated as the Acting Managing Director (MD) of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) pending the decision of the government to appoint a substantive MD.

His nomination followed the resignation of the immediate past MD, Mahama Dubik, who tendered in his resignation letter on Wednesday September 25, 2024, for “personal reasons.”

Mr. Asamoah, prior to this elevation, was the Deputy Managing Director of the power distributor.

His nomination was decided at an emergency meeting of the board held yesterday afternoon.

Board Chairman of ECG and the Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who made the announcement yesterday, said the board is determined to embrace reforms to ensure efficient power supply.

He said the new nomination will not affect the operations of the company, and the board will in a short time update the public on plans by the board to transform the power sector.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin said the board has received the support of the management of ECG, adding that the fact that there has been a change in management does not mean there would be interrupted power supply, as the company’s entire systems are still in place.

Mr. Asamoah joined ECG in 1997 where he rose through the ranks, once serving as the Director of Customer Services as well as a General Manager.

He completed the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science of Technology (KNUST) in 2003 where he earned Master of Art in Industrial Management.

He also served as Director in charge of the Ashanti Region’s strategic business unit of the ECG.

Resignation

Mr. Mahama in his resignation letter addressed to the Board Chairman of ECG stated that “the decision has not come easily, but after much reflection, I have concluded that it is in my best interest to step away for personal reasons.”

He continued that, “Over the past two years and four months, I have had the profound honour of serving this esteemed organisation, and I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have received. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Board for your unwavering support and guidance throughout my tenure. I also wish to express my sincere gratitude to the President for the trust placed in me, which has been a significant aspect of my journey here.”
