Efya
Singer, Efya, has pushed back against long-standing public perceptions that she is unfriendly, insisting that her confidence and firm boundaries are often misunderstood.
Speaking on TV3’s The Ladies Circle with Anita Akuffo, the award-winning vocalist said many people approach celebrities with entitlement, leading them to misjudge her personality.
“People think I’m not a nice person; it’s because I’m much grounded, I guess,” she said.
According to Efya, some fans assume that streaming her music gives them the right to speak to her—something she finds unacceptable.
“It depends on the kind of energy you come to me with. Most people feel entitled when it comes to celebrities. Just because you stream my music doesn’t mean you can tell me things you know you’re not supposed to,” she stressed.
Efya also called out social media platforms—especially Twitter—for enabling disrespectful behaviour by giving people a false sense of boldness.
“Sometimes, people go off a little bit on Twitter and feel themselves, but it’s not fun and games till I show up in your house,” she warned.
Despite the harsh assumptions about her, Efya insists she is one of the kindest people anyone could meet—until someone crosses the line.
“I’m actually the sweetest person. I just don’t like disrespect, so if you bring that on me, we will have a problem,” she said.
She urged the public to maintain respect both online and offline, adding, “Everybody is allowed their mindset, but I choose to keep it respectful till you cross the line.”
