EKMA Achieves 87% Revenue Target

THE EFFIA-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) in the Western Region recorded GH¢17, 524,546.94 in revenues as at August this year out of a target of GH¢20, 134,035.39 set for the year.

The amount represents 87 per cent of the budgeted revenue.

The assembly’s internally generated fund (IGF) collected during the period under review was GH¢1,463,190.74, representing 66 per cent collection rate of projected IGF revenue of GH¢2, 232,506.67.

The assembly was also expecting to receive GH¢17, 901,528.73 as support from the central government, including the District Assemblies’ Common Fund. However, GH¢16,061,356.20 representing about 90 per cent of the projected sum was received by the assembly.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for EKMA, Kojo Acquah, revealed this at the First Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of EKMA.

He added that the assembly also spent an amount of GH¢981,506.69 on wages and salaries from its IGF and GH¢2,351,686.25 on recurrent administrative expenditure.

Mr. Acquah noted that the assembly proposed a sum of GH¢14, 052,941.59 to finance capital projects. However, an amount of GH¢1, 070,141.63 was spent to finance the construction of infrastructural projects, most of which were ongoing within the municipality.

The MCE explained that this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the area was conducted under strict adherence to all the Covid-19 protocols.

“The assembly assisted the Education Directorate with some sanitary items which were used at the two examination centres – Takoradi Technical University and Takoradi Technical Institute,” he revealed.

He said 89 junior high schools, which comprised 67 private and 20 public schools, presented candidates for the examination.

The Presiding Member for EKMA, John Davis, disclosed that he had launched the ‘John Davis Clean Environment Award’ programme as part of efforts to promote clean and healthy communities.
