EKMA Gets Massive Govt Projects

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is embarking on massive development projects in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality (EKMA) to help give the municipality a facelift.

The projects are under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP) of the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development.

The projects being undertaking at a cost for over GH¢33 million include the construction of storm drain from Anaji Choice Mart to ‘I Adu’ area, the construction of three Cell Box Culverts at Effia, two Cell Box Culverts and storm drains at Bankyease, all in the municipality.

The Minister of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Dan Botwe, revealed this when he cut the sod to begin the Surfacing Dressing of Effia Town Roads in the municipality.

The project which would include the construction of Long Double Culvert and Filling works at Anaji, would be executed by Kingspok Construction Works Limited within six months.

The Minister disclosed that the municipality would also benefit from the construction of Two Storey, 57 Unit Lockable Shops and four Offices at Kwesimintsim.

He mentioned the other contractors that would help to execute the project as Savannah Empire Construction Limited, Linktell Business Services Limited and Memphis Metropolitan Limited.

Mr. Dan Botwe noted that already, the municipality has benefitted from certain projects under the GSCSP which have brought huge transformation in the area. This includes the asphalting surfacing of Assakae-Whindo road and Bituminous Surfacing of Whindo Health Center road.

The rest are rehabilitation of WAMCo to Cocoa Villa road, construction of Roadside drains and culverts as well as filling of culverts and construction of Roadside drains around areas like Takoradi Technical Institute and Mpatado to Assakae road.

He told the people that politics was about initiating projects that would help improve the living standards of the citizens and called on the residents to continue to support the government to benefit from more projects.

He praised Joseph Cudjoe and Prince Hamid Armah, Members of Parliament for Effia and Kwesimintsim respectively for their hard work and support which ensured that the projects are carried out successfully.

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah asserted that it was only the NPP government that implements the best and the most important projects for the people of Sekondi-Takoradi.

The Municipal Chief Executive of EKMA, Kojo Acquah, was hopeful that when completed, the various projects would bring relief to the people and ensure that the perennial flooding situation in the area becomes a thing of the past.

The MP for Kwesimintsim, Prince Hamid Armah entreated the constituents to understand that most of the projects being undertaken by the assembly are the initiatives of the MPs in the area adding “So you should not think the MPs are doing nothing”.
