NEWLY opened university, Entrance University College of Health Sciences, over the weekend held its first matriculation on its campus at Spintex in Accra, where it enrolled 42 students who would be pursuing a course in Doctor of Pharmacy programme.
The ceremony, which was held under the theme: “Excellence in Training of Health Professionals”, had in attendance the Deputy Minister of Health, Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, among other high profile dignitaries.
In his address, Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu stated that the ministry of health with the government seeks to improve the health status of people living in Ghana. Hence its aim is to improve the human capital thus creating wealth through health.
He commended the university and its authority of investing in individuals who are passionate about serving in the field of pharmacy. He assured the school of government’s support in the areas of health and training more pharmacists.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the College’s Council, Professor Peter Ohene Kyei, advised the students to participate fully in events and programmes of the school and stay committed to their studies, adding that they should “own the institution” as their conduct would go a long way in aiding the development of the school.
The school would serve as a Christian-based university that aims at providing principled, moral, philosophical and entrepreneurial training for all individuals who wish to pursue higher education in the field of the health sciences.
He continued by saying that the university is committed to promoting academic, moral and spiritual transformation in the lives of its students so that they come out well prepared after graduation to contribute to the society.
Chancellor of the University, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Tobinco Group, Mr. Samuel Amo Tobin, in his remarks, stated that the university aims to be one of the best schools in healthcare training in Ghana.
He said the school would offer quality health-science training to the students in a godly environment. Students would also be offered opportunity to further their studies in other countries the university is affiliated to in order for them to become top class professionals.
