Kofi Addo-Agyekum

KOFI ADDO-Agyekum, pharmacist and CEO of Kofikrom Pharmacy Limited, was recently decorated with the ‘Outstanding Pharmaceutical Entrepreneur of the Year 2020’ award by the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana (EFG).

Mr. Addo-Agyekum, who received a plaque and certificate at the virtual ceremony in Accra, in February this year, received the Business Executive Excellence Awards at the Kempinski Hotel where “The Baron” title was conferred on him for his exceptional and excellent contribution to Ghana’s business sector.

As the Chief Executive Officer of Kofikrom Pharmacy Ltd, Mr. Addo-Agyekum founded and registered Kofikrom Pharmacy Limited in 2006, which started its operations in 2011. He took full control of the company’s operations in 2015 and has since grown it into one of the most respected pharmaceutical companies in Ghana with 57 branded generic pharmaceutical products registered with the FDA (38 product lines from imports and 19 product lines from local manufacturing) which are very efficacious, available, affordable and accessible nationwide.

Through his sterling leadership, Kofikrom Pharmacy took advantage of the opportunities presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and integrated backwards by starting its local manufacturing subsidiary within the first quarter of 2020. This backward integration strategy positioned Kofikrom Pharmacy as a testament to the feasibility of vertical integration in the face of adversity through the COVID-19 pandemic, and has showcased the positive response of the company to the policy on import substitution in the pharmaceutical sector.

Mr. Addo-Agyekum has over the period become principal and premier in the pharmaceutical industry and beyond. He is currently the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Africa Pharmaceutical Distribution Association and a Founding Member and National Executive Council Member of the Ghana National Chamber of Pharmacy.

For the past 10 years, Mr. Addo-Agyekum has been the Chairman of the Global Fund Initiative of the Private Sector Co-payment Mechanism for Malaria management in Ghana. He is Member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, Member of the National Medicines Pricing Committee, Member of Pharmaceutical Importers and Wholesalers Association, Member of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Member of the Suhyen Citizens Association.
