Western Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Takoradi Constituency, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has called for intensive collaboration between event industry players in Ghana.

The minister, who was speaking at the 5th edition of the Ghana Event and Industry Conference (G.E.I.C), under the theme, “Adaptability and Implementation” in Takoradi, emphasised the need for event organisations to join forces through collaborations, to build up innovative ideas which aim to position the industry on a global pedestal.

These collaborations, according to the minister, may be among industry players and regulatory bodies, capacity building, etc.

“This is to emphasise that, competition may be good, but may not be suitable in all cases. Coming together to build a dynamic and formidable industry that sets acceptable standards among its members to deliver value for clients should therefore be the ultimate goal,” he advised.

Highlighting the benefits of the event industry to national development, Mr. Okyere Darko-Mensah further stated that, one of the critical aspects of the event industry that vendors must emphasise is its potential to promote tourism and contribute to the development of our local communities.

“Ghana’s rich history, culture and traditions provide a fertile ground for event planners to create experiences that captivate both local and international audiences. Through these events, we can attract tourists, support our artisans and showcase our heritage.

“By working closely with local communities and involving them in the planning and execution of events, we can ensure that the benefits of the industry reach every corner of our nation,” he added.

President of the Event Vendors Association of Ghana (EVAG), Kate Hassan, on her part, said the industry conference was organised to provide a unique platform for members and stakeholders to come together, share knowledge, forge new partnerships, and explore innovative trends and practices.

“It is an opportunity to learn from industry experts, discuss challenges, and collectively work towards the development and growth of the events sector in Ghana,” she said.

The panel discussion section of the conference witnessed the industry trailblazers sharing insightful experiences on how to position the event industry on a global pedestal.
