Fire Guts Residential Building At Suame

Some GNFS personnel and residents at the scene

A devastating fire has completely destroyed a residential building at Suame Nkramom in Kumasi, leaving two occupants seriously injured.

The incident occurred on Friday, January 23, 2026.

The fire broke out while one of the tenants was at the market. She told reporters that she received an urgent phone call informing her that their house was on fire. By the time she arrived at the scene, the blaze had already spread rapidly.

Eyewitnesses said residents in the area quickly mobilised to help contain the fire, as thick flames engulfed the building. Despite their efforts, all rooms in the house were completely burnt, and no belongings were salvaged.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) later arrived and battled the inferno, but the building had already been completely consumed by the fire.

Speaking to the media, Sister Issha, an eyewitness, disclosed that two occupants of the building became unconscious while trapped inside one of the rooms. With the help of neighbours and colleagues, the victims were rescued from the burning structure.

The injured persons were identified as Prince, 20, and Sandy, 16, a Senior High School Form One student. The two, who are siblings, were rushed to the emergency unit of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
