Fire Guts Sakumono School Complex

The gutted building

FIRE GUTTED part of Sakumono School Complex in the Tema West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region yesterday.

The fire which started at dawn destroyed part of the nursery department and a storeroom of the school.

Things like books, chairs, tables, cooking utensils among others were not spared in the inferno.

It took personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to save the situation and prevent the fire from consuming the school.

Eyewitness told ‘DAILY GUIDE’ that the fire started from the storeroom and spread to the nursery classrooms.

Officials of the GNFS said they received a report around 6:00 am from a resident close to the school who said flames were coming through the roof of one of the classrooms.

The nursery has been closed since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country hard and firefighters are still investigating the possible cause of the fire in the empty rooms and store.

Academic activities after the fire incident were still in session for Junior High School (JHS) 2 students who had been granted permission by the state to return to school during the pandemic.

However, Assembly Member for Sakumono Electoral Area, Kwasi Poku Bosompem, said he had alerted the assembly about the situation and experts had been dispatched to assess the situation.

Police personnel have been deployed to the scene to ensure safety of lives and property.
