BARELY TWO weeks after a fierce fire outbreak killed a policeman, his wife and child in Kumasi, another family of three have also been burnt into ashes by an inferno.

The latest disaster occurred at Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality when a mother and her two children were burnt in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The deceased people have since been identified as Abigail Manu, 28, Norah Yeboah, 9, and Philipa Yeboah, 6. Their bodies have been deposited in a mortuary for preservation.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the fire started around 3:30am when the mother and her two children were fast asleep, so they could not escape from the fire.

According to them, when Abigail and her children eventually woke up, they tried to escape but their efforts were not enough, as they got trapped and burnt in their room.

They said some residents in the community, especially the young and energetic men, rushed to the disaster scene to help save the hapless family, but their efforts proved futile.

A distress call was finally placed to the office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), who quickly rushed to the scene and doused the fire in the four-bedroom house.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known when this report was being filed on Wednesday afternoon. Fire officers said they were still investigating the cause of the inferno.
