‘Firmino Works Like An Animal’

Sadio Mane. INSET: Roberto Firmino

Sadio Mane has put his strong start to the season down to his Liverpool team-mates, with Roberto Firmino singled out for special praise.

The Senegal international, who is one third of the Reds’ deadly front three alongside the Brazilian and Mo Salah, has hit the ground running at the start of the Premier League campaign, scoring four times in his first four appearances.

It bodes well for Jurgen Klopp and his side, who are aiming to end a trophy drought at Anfield which stretches back to 2012.

However, Mane insists that he cannot take all of the credit for getting off on the right foot, stating that the entire team is on song.

And he believes that no player embodies that determination more than their No 9.

‘Lots of people like to talk about me and Salah. It’s nice to hear those things, but the strength of this Liverpool team is the collective, he told Bleacher Report.

‘You also can’t forget that there’s a guy up front called Firmino who works like an animal for us and makes things easier.

‘And the guys behind us do some extraordinary work. We try to benefit from that and help the team go forward.’

Klopp’s men have started the season with four wins from four in the league and sit top on goal difference as one of just three sides still with a 100 per cent record.

They go in search of a fifth on Saturday when they visit Wembley to take on Tottenham in the lunchtime kick-off.
