The newly-constructed Mother & Baby Unit (MBU) at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi will be open to the public this week.
The project was officially commissioned by First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo in the middle of January 2018, but the public has not been able to access it so far.
Several key modern medical equipment were supposed to be fixed in the edifice before patients could visit the place on daily basis to access quality healthcare.
Also, KATH staff who are supposed to work in the facility are supposed to be trained to help them to properly handle the modern equipment installed.
The aforementioned factors were the main reason patients could not visit the ultra-modern facility to seek proper healthcare, the CEO of KATH disclosed.
Dr Oheneba Owusu-Danso said everything that is needed to be done to make the facility ready to properly cater for patients has been provided now.
Addressing staff on Wednesday, he stated that “it is significant to state that the earlier operationalisation challenges have been sorted out.”
Dr Owusu-Danso pointed out that “the transfer of staff and the remaining equipment began earlier this week for full operationalisation of the new centre. The project is a major contribution to our logistics and is expected to improve maternal and neonatal care and subsequently the related mortalities.”
According to him, the MBU which was constructed following the intervention of the first lady will start work this week.
The Multimedia Group also played vital roles in helping to construct the facility.
Dr Owusu-Danso was speaking during KATH 2017 annual performance review workshop, which the hospital used to assess how it performed last year.
