Five Nabbed Over Stolen SHS Food

The stolen items

FIVEĀ  PERSONS including theĀ  matron of Atebubu SHS and a landlord have been arrested by the police for their alledged involvement in stealing food stuff meant for feeding students.

Though police will not provide their names, the Municipal Chief Executive of Atebubu Amantin, Edward Owusu confirmed the arrest in an interview and said the suspects included the matron of Atebubu SHS, drivers and storekeepers of the Atebubu SHS and that of Konkrompe SHS.

At the time of filling this report the matron has been released on bail while the other four are in Atebubu police custody pending further investigation.

The stolen food items included 50 kilos of 46 bags of maize, 24 bags of beans, seventy kilos of 10 bags of rice, 25 litres of one gallon of oil, tin tomatoes among other items.

The MCE explained that he was given a tip-off by a good samaritan that some bad people have stole Free SHS food items and kept them at an unknown compound.

ā€œI immediately informed the police and BNI and together with their officers we dashed to the said house. To our surprise we found quantities of the food items packed in one of the rooms full. The landlord originally denied knowledge of it but his wife confirmed they were stolen items brought and kept there.

He was subsequently arrested together with others including the matron of Atebubu SHS, drivers and storekeepers of the schools.

However, the items are being kept at the Atebubu Amantin Assembly stores after failing to secure a place to keep them at the police station.

The MCE was happy this time around some culprits have been arrested in connection with the stolen Free SHS food items that government has been supplying to the schools.

ā€œThose who engage in the nefarious activities just want to give a dog a bad name and hang it. This is not the first time. If my memory serves me well, this is about the third time.

They will face the full rigours of the law,ā€ he assured.
