THE GHANA Forestry Commission has joined the ‘Local Content Agenda’ – a campaign which aims at promoting local industries and products in the country.

At a press conference held at the commission’s board room on Wednesday, January 16, Chief Executive (EC) of the commission Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie disclosed that as part of their efforts to support the local industry, the commission with support from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources had purchased two Omama’ pickup trucks from local car manufacturer – Safo Kantanka – worth US$2,000 (GH¢100,000), a price he described as affordable.

He noted that their inspiration was drawn from the comments of President Akufo-Addo who has implored Ghanaians to purchase, appreciate and promote locally manufactured goods.

Describing the President as “someone who walks the talk,” Mr. Afriyie said the President has exuded true leadership by loving, appreciating and promoting made-in-Ghana products through his daily outfits, among several others.

He said Dr. Safo Kantanka was a man with exceptional talents which must be well appreciated by Ghanaians, adding that his products can stand any competition with any of the top automobile brands in the world when given the right support especially from Ghanaians.

He urged the public to always ensure that they have at least a vehicle from the Kantanka brand among their fleet of cars to boost the local automobile industry.

Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Benito Owusu commended the Forestry Commission for the laudable step taken to support and promote the Local Content Agenda.

He stressed that government had intensified its resolve to promote local contents and is ever ready to support any local entrepreneur.

He revealed that discussions are underway to ensure that all other agencies under the ministry such as the lands and minerals commissions purchase at least two vehicles from the Kantanka brand as part of their fleet of vehicles as a means of supporting the local industry.

The newly purchased Kantanka vehicles were put on display and driven around the premises of the commission at Achimota.
