Former Shama MP Dies

A FORMER New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Shama Constituency in the Western Region, Dr. Ato Panford, has passed on.

The sad news occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 12, 2023 at the GHAPOHA Hospital in Takoradi. He was 61.

This was confirmed to journalists by the Western Regional Secretary of the ruling NPP, Okatakyie Amankwa Afrifa.

Dr. Panford was the MP for Shama in the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

He served as a Deputy Trade Minister in the first term of the President Akufo-Addo-led NPP government.

Until his death, Dr. Panford was the Senior Advisor of Enterprise Audit at the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) National Coordinating Office.

A former Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, has commiserated with the deceased’s family and the NPP as a whole.

In a Facebook post, he said “I have received with sadness the passing of my very good friend and former Member of Parliament for Shama Constituency, Dr. Ato Panford.”

“I spoke to the wife, son and a few family members a while ago. Ato was an astute expert in International Trade and Commerce and distinguished himself as an Industrialist with over 25 years in the Private and Public sectors,” the NPP flagbearer hopeful indicated.

As at the time of filing this report, the MP for Essikado-Ketan and another NPP flagbearer hopeful, Joe Ghartey, was on his way to the residence of the late former MP to commiserate with the family members.
