THE DEPUTY Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Freda Akosua Prempeh, has successfully graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Administration from the Ghana Communications Technology University (GCTU) in Accra.

She was part of fifteen individuals who were awarded the certificates following their completion of the course which spanned four years.

Speaking to journalists after the graduation ceremony held on the university’s Tesano campus last Saturday, an elated Madam Freda Prempeh said she was motivated to acquire further knowledge in order to inspire the younger generation, particularly young women to pursue their dreams regardless of the challenges they faced.

“I must say I was motivated to take this step to inspire other women – young and old – that no matter your age, academic qualification or social status, you can still achieve your dreams.

“As a mother, a parent, a wife, a Member of Parliament (MP) and a Minister of State, combining all these responsibilities for four years down the road hasn’t been easy but absolutely worth it. And that’s the message I want to drum home to every other woman out there – that with determination, you can make it,” she stated.

Madam Prempeh disclosed that the thesis for her project was ‘Exploring The Low Representation of Women in Politics: A Case Study of the Seventh Parliament’.

She argued that female representation in Ghana’s political space was relatively low, and added that studies suggest that women need to be encouraged to pursue political careers.

“My time in Parliament has taught me that even though efforts are being made to ensure that female representation in the House is improved upon, they have not fully yielded the desired results,” she said.

Vice Chancellor of GTCU, Professor Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, intimated that the ceremony marks the very first since government absorbed the university into the public tertiary institution system.

He noted that, as an institution, they would continue to give off their best and churn out the right materials to help in Ghana’s technological and industrial development.

Prior to the graduation, Madam Freda Prempeh had two Master’s degrees under her sleeve; and is also a Chartered Marketer.
