Free Cement, Iron Sheets For Fire Victims

The French Line market being reconstructed

VICTIMS OF the recent fire outbreak at French Line in the Kumasi Central Market have received support, aimed at helping them to return to work.

A total of 100 bags of cement and 20 packs of iron sheets have been donated to them (fire victims) to enable them reconstruct their burnt shops. The largesse was made possible following the intervention of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’.

In his remarks, the lawmaker, who doubles as the Energy Minister, lamented over the recent fire outbreak which destroyed the source of livelihood of the victims. According to him, he was aware that the victims were struggling to return back to business in order to take care of themselves and their families, hence his support.

“I can feel your pain and the difficult moments that you are going through, so I’m here to first of all console you for losing your source of livelihoods. Also, I’m here to present 100 bags of cement and 20 packs of iron sheets, through NADMO, to help you to reconstruct the burnt shops”, he indicated.

The Manhyia South MP also admonished the city authorities to intervene for the French Line Market to be properly laid out to help deal with disasters.

“The market is poorly structured and I’m told this prevented the firefighters from getting easy access to battle the fire, and the city authorities should intervene,” he stated.

Alhaji Muntari, one of the affected traders, appealed to Napo to intervene so the French Line Market would be connected to electricity to enhance their work, and thanked Napo for his support.

In his response, Napo said their request would be looked into by the ECG, and cautioned the traders to desist from illegal connections since it drains national coffers.
