Fulani Herdsmen Kill Farmer

Emmanuel Gyinae

A group of Fulani herdsmen at Agogo in the Asante Akim North Municipality of the Ashanti Region are on the heels of a certain Emmanuel Gyinae.

DAILY GUIDE learnt that the young man lost his father through the same Fulani menace in Agogo some time ago.

The Fulanis are nomadic herdsmen who hail from Chad in Central Africa, but are now found in most African countries as a result of the nomadic nature of their trade.

It was gathered that due to free ranching, the cattle belonging to the Fulanis destroyed the vegetable farm of Paul Kumah, the late father of Emmanuel Gyinae and spurred by anger, the man killed some of the cattle.

A few days later Mr Kumah’s lifeless body was found on his farm and it was believed the Fulani herdsmen were the ones that killed him as a result of the misunderstanding he had with them.

It was learnt that the Fulanis have also promised to kill Emmanuel Gyinae who assisted his father to kill their cattle.

Activities of the Fulani herdsmen have so far left a bad taste in the mouths of the people of Agogo and its environs. They destroy farmlands and muddy up drinking water, threatening indigenous people with their AK 47 assault rifles. There are reports that they have the support of chiefs in the area, who receive fat cattle as compensation for the support they give to the herdsmen.

Government has launched so many operations to curb the activities of the Fulanis, with the last being “Operation Cow Leg”, but this did not stop them from invading people’s farmlands with their cattle, because of the surreptitious nature of their trade.
