Fulani Herdsmen Open Fire On Soldiers, Cops

THREE MILITARY men and one policeman have reportedly sustained severe gunshot wounds after Fulani herdsmen had allegedly opened fire on them yesterday.

The incident occurred at Serebuoso, a suburb of Asante-Akim Agogo in the Ashanti Region.

The victims are currently at the hospital receiving treatment at Agogo, a source hinted DAILY GUIDE during an interview on telephone.

The victims were said to be part of a joint military/police taskforce which had gone to the area on a normal operation against the havoc caused by Fulani herdsmen on local farmers.

Unknown to them, some fully-armed herdsmen had allegedly laid ambush when they arrived at the place at about 12:30 pm on Monday.

Eyewitnesses said that the courageous-looking Fulani herdsmen quickly surrounded the military/police team and started firing at them from all directions.

In the course of the shooting, three military men and one policeman were reportedly hit by bullets.

Police Shun Media

DAILY GUIDE’s attempt to confirm the report from the police hierarchy in the area failed to materialize as they did not pick several phone calls by the paper.

However, some junior cops at Agogo who spoke to the paper on condition of anonymity confirmed that three soldiers and one policeman had been shot.

Tension At Agogo

Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE has gathered that the shooting incident had ignited tension in all the communities at Agogo and its surroundings.

The paper gathered that residents of the area, who are brimming with rage, have vowed to avenge the shooting by the Fulani herdsmen.
