Fuse ODG, Others Listed Among Spotify Most Streamed Afrobeat Artistes

Grammy awarding-winning artistes, Fuse ODG and Burna Boy have been named among the top ten most streamed afrobeat artistes on Spotify musical platform 2021.

Spotify musical platform is the world’s leading streaming platform with over 159 million active users and records 11.5 billion streams per hour of content in the fourth quarter.

The platform focuses on increasing the reach and operational effectiveness of artistes on its global online network.

Fuse ODG took the eighth position on Spotify’s top ten most streamed afrobeat artistes with 312.8k streams, making him the only Ghanaian on Spotify’s chart.

Fuse made his debut single in 2013 with the song ‘Antenna’ and has released albums including ‘Antenna’, ‘TINA’, ‘Boa Me’, ‘Diary Island’, ‘Jinja’, ‘Lazy Day’, ‘Million Pound Girl’, ‘Sunrise’, and ‘Window Set’ which features top international acts.

Grammy award-winning artiste, Burna Boy, took the first position on Spotify’s most streamed artistes with 2.28 million streams. Burna Boy is one of the biggest and most successful African artistes who rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing ‘Like to Party’, the lead single from his debut studio album ‘L.I.F.E.’ He has other albums including ‘On A Spaceship’, ‘Outside’, ‘African Giant’, ‘Twice As Tall’.

Nigerian crossover artiste, Wizkid took the second position with 2.08 million streams. He is the first Afrobeats artiste to appear in the 2018 Guinness World Records for his contribution to ‘One Dance’; a collaboration with Drake which was number one in 15 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.

Mr. Eazi, the pioneer of ‘Banku Music’, a fusion of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian sounds took the third position with 701k streams. Mr. Eazi is also noted for songs like ‘Skinlight’, ‘Leg Over’, and ‘Lento’ among others.

DMW boss and Nigerian singer Davido placed fourth with 651.6k while talented afrobeat artiste, Rema gained preeminence with the release of his hit songs ‘Dumebi’ and ‘Corny’ in March 2019 placed fifth with 500k streams on Spotify.

Sensational Nigerian singer, Tems took the sixth position with 331.1k streams while Omah Lay also garnered 331k streams, making him the seventh afrobeat artiste on Spotify’s chart.

AfroB and Fireboydml made 227.8k, 210.8k streams, making them occupy the ninth and tenth position respectively on Spotify’s top ten most streamed afrobeat artistes in 2021.
