The Ghana Arts and Culture Awards (GACA) organized by the Arts and Culture Company, has officially opened nominations for this year’s awards.
The awards ceremony seeks to honour organizations and individuals who have made significant contributions to the arts and culture industry in Ghana.
This awards scheme will be based on selection of individuals who will be filing for nomination.
The awards nomination, which is opened to the public to enable them to select their favorite personality or brand, will run from June 12 to July 31, 2020.
Mr. Frank Saka, the Event Manager for GACA, speaking at the launch of this year’s edition, said the decision to take nominations via online was due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak and the need to adhere to the protocols in the fight against the virus.
“We are in a time where there has been a restriction to movements and social distancing, therefore, we are urging all prospective nominees to visit our website, www.gacagh.com/nomination, or send their nomination to gacanomination@gmail.com adding all relevant materials which the board will need to make their final selection,” he said.
He said this year’s awards ceremony would see two new categories, which included “Outstanding Theatre Performance” and “Arts and Culture Media of the year (Radio)”; this is to appreciate those promoting the craft in those sectors across the country.
Mr. Mike Frempong, the Head of Communication and Research, GACA, said the nominees could send their questions and enquiries to the scheme through its website and emails.
He urged the public to brace themselves for a better experience as compared to its first edition held in 2019, which brought on board government agencies and institutions due to its credibility and uniqueness.
This year’s awards ceremony is in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Ghana Tourism Authority, National Commission on Culture, National Folklore Board and Tourism Society of Ghana; with sponsorship from GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Liberty Industry, and Joy Industry.
