Gas Tanker Crashes Into Building

The crashed gas tanker with Ghana Fire Service personnel at the scene

Residents of Krofrom CPC, a suburb of Kumasi, were put on high alert after a tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) crashed into a residential property in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The driver of the tanker was travelling along the street of the CPC area at about 1:30 am on Thursday before colliding with the building.

Schools within the vicinity were closed down with the children sent home whilst residents of the area were asked to vacate their residence to safe places.

The Metro Fire Officer, DO2 Rashid Nissau, revealed that the area had been classified as a high risk zone with people put on alert because of the high propensity of the truck’s content leaking.

According to him, there were no causalities and the Ghana Fire Service (GFS) had isolated any material that could trigger any explosion.

Mr. Nissau indicated that they were looking forward to empty the tank before they could pull it off from the building, but admonishment received from Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) to be extra careful because of the position of the valves – turned upside down.

“Two fire tenders have been placed on standing by with foam and water to prevent any fire outbreak,” he added.
