The three boxers displaying their titles in front of the Chief Imam

THE GHANA Boxing Authority (GBA) has presented three Ghanaian Boxing champions who recently claimed national titles to His Eminence the National Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Professor Osman Nuhu Sharubutu for prayers, blessings and support.

The president of the GBA, Kotei Neequaye, indicated that the decision to introduce the boxing champions and their titles to His Eminence first before anyone else was because the champions were young men from the Zongos.

Also, he said it was the first time that Zongo boxers have claimed three titles at the same time.

The GBA president appealed to the National Chief Imam to add his voice to the plight of the GBA and boxers in Ghana.

He, particularly, called for support for boxers who were struggling to make ends meet although they were champions.

“We want His Eminence to appeal to his children who are in business and are philanthropists to come to the aid of the boxers in the Zongos so that the upcoming talents and hardworking men who aspire for greatness would be motivated and encouraged to train hard and win titles,” he highlighted.

He added “The Government of Ghana and Ghanaians  in general,  give much attention to football, whereas Ghana doesn’t claim as much titles and trophies in football, like in boxing where Ghana has over 11 world titles.”

His Eminence prayed for the boxers to claim world titles in addition to the national titles.

He further appealed to all and sundry to help the hardworking Zongo men and women in athletics and boxing.

After the courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, the GBA president and boxing officials inspected the NFC GYM which is right opposite the residence of the National Chief Imam. It is expected to host Zongo Boxing Academy (ZABOA) which would be launched soon.

Present at the meeting was Alhaji Taufiq, chairman of Boxing Promoters in Ghana, Alhaji Abdul Samed, manager and Alhaji Khuzaima Osman, manager and CEO of NFC GYM.
