GCB Bank, formerly known as Ghana Commercial Bank, yesterday launched an enhanced mobile application dubbed ‘Recoded’, to meet the banking needs of its customers ever evolving digitalised space.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, said as a regulator that seeks to promote financial inclusion, it was delighted when institutions developed innovative financial services that enhanced the financial inclusion agenda.

He, therefore, commended the management and Board of GCB for its initiative of customer-centred financial services product.

He said a significant shift in the payment ecosystem underpinned by advances in financial technology and innovations have rapidly altered the mode of financial services.

According to him, such immense digital transformation has expanded the reach of financial product and services beyond the boundaries of banking halls, enabling customers to transact financial transactions through mobile applications and other technologies.

“Today, mobile banking has become the go-to-method for customers to make deposits and account transfers, and has also solidified its pace as the feature for financial institutions to remain competitive among tech savy customers,” he said.

He, however, advised banks to take a keen interest in improving its cyber security and infrastructure to enhance resilience against cyber and information risk in order not to be overtaken by cyber fraud, breaches among others.

He stated that, to prevent such a phenomenon that has characterised the digitalised space in other areas, the banks should intensify financial education to protect both the banks and customers from cyber attacks.

Managing Director of GCB, Kofi Adomakoh, for his part, described the app as “a blockbuster that is easy to use, convenient to liberate customers from their needs in financial transactions.”

He mentioned that the bank in creating the app considered all fabric of society, including the public as well as the private sector, to allow customers to perform both financial and non- financial transactions using a smart phone device.

“The features of the app allow you to perform certain functions, including viewing account information, transfer of funds, loan requests, among others.

“The app also has additional features that allows instant account opening, transfer account, deposit and investment, pay bills with DSTV, ECG, water bill, school fees, view and request statements, standing orders among several others,” he added.

Daniel Kwaku Tweneboah Asirifi, acting Board Chairman of GCB, said the bank aims to make an enduring positive impact in the lives of its customers by providing bespoke solutions.

He said the enhanced mobile app has been applauded by many as the best on the market, given the feedback and ratings on various platforms and comments on social media, while assuring the public of its readiness to address all concerns to meet the needs of its customers.

Present at the launch include staff  of GCB Bank, board members, industry players as well as some customers of the bank.
