Faculty members and matriculants
The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Garden City University (GCU), Professor Eric Kwasi Ofori, has urged newly admitted students to uphold academic excellence, discipline and ethical conduct throughout their studies.
He said students must reflect the university’s standards and values, stressing that academic excellence and integrity were central to its mission.
Prof. Ofori made the call at the university’s matriculation ceremony for the 2026/2027 academic year on October 16, 2026.
He challenged the students to embrace GCU’s vision of nurturing innovators and transformational leaders capable of driving social change and socioeconomic development in Ghana and beyond.
Campus Expansion
Prof. Ofori announced that the university was constructing a seven-storey lecture hall and laboratory complex to address constraints in teaching and learning facilities.
The project, which began in August 2026, is expected to be completed in July 2027.
He said management was also upgrading public address systems, installing additional LED projectors and large television screens in lecture halls, and providing more ceiling fans to improve ventilation and comfort in classrooms.
The university had also acquired software to improve student records management and streamline administrative processes, he said.
The system, he added, was expected to support more efficient academic administration and facilitate the timely graduation of students enrolled in professional programmes at the School of Health and Allied Sciences.
Students’ Concerns
A matriculating student, Gloria Donkor, who presented concerns on behalf of her colleagues, commended management for providing a conducive teaching and learning environment but called for further improvements.
She appealed for additional classrooms to ease pressure on existing facilities and urged the university to strengthen campus and hostel security.
Her proposals included installing more streetlights, expanding closed-circuit television (CCTV) coverage across the campus and hostel facilities, and improving safety measures for university transport services.
