GES Boss Removed

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has terminated the appointment of the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa.

A letter addressed to the GES boss and signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, on behalf of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, dated Monday, October 17, 2022, stated that the Ministry of Education has informed the Office of the President that the exigencies that required Prof Opoku-Amankwa’s skills and expertise do not exist any longer.

It continued that “Accordingly, the President of the Republic has instructed that your secondment be terminated forthwith, and you are directed to return to your position at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.”

Prof Opoku-Amankwa was appointed as the Director General of the Service on secondment from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in January, 2017.

His contract was extended again in June 2021 but this extension according to the letter was in “contravention of the Human Resource Policy Frame and Manual of the Public Services Commission as it purports to extend your secondment beyond the 3-year maximum limit.”

However, the letter indicated that the extension was in contravention of the Human Resource Policy Framework and Manual of the Public Services Commission.

Prof. Opoku-Amankwa has therefore been instructed to return to the KNUST.

“The President thanks you for your service to the nation and wishes you the very best in your future endeavours”the letter further stated.
