Ghana Beyond Aid Is Imperative – Seth Terkper

Seth Terkper

FORMER FINANCE Minister, Seth Terkper has described as imperative, President Akufo-Addo’s Ghana Beyond Aid agenda.

He was speaking to StarrFM on Tuesday, February 19, on the Ghanaian economy and what the country ought to do to move forward.

In the interview monitored by DGN Online , Mr. Terkper said Ghana Beyond Aid is not just something the country needs but it is imperative.

Mr. Terkper was Finance Minister under the erstwhile Mahama Government. Under his tenure as Finance Minister, Ghana’s economy took a nosedive, with rumors at the time that then President Mahama was considering to sack him from his position as the man in charge of Ghana’s finances.

According to him, once Ghana has become a middle income country and continues to grow, aid and access to soft loans will dwindle.

He said it was therefore important for the country to take steps to move beyond aid and improve domestic revenue mobilization efforts.

His interview centred on the banking sector clean-up, government’s borrowings, energy sector debts and expenditures, among others.
