The Ghana National Gas Company located in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region has spent GH¢268 million on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) since the inception of the gas processing company in 2011.

Senior Manager, Community Relations and CSR of Ghana Gas, Stephen Donkor, revealed this at a press engagement organized by the company for journalists in the region.

He disclosed that the company’s CSR policy is based on six thematic areas including Education, Health, Water and Sanitation, Community and Sports Development as well as Skills Development.

He mentioned that under education, the company has constructed educational facilities and provided other requisite materials to enhance teaching and learning.

He added that the company has also built health facilities including CHPS Compound and assisted some facilities with hospital equipment.

“The company has also registered about 16,000 people in its project communities on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the last three years,” he revealed.

He added that the company has also constructed over 170 mechanized boreholes in all the 16 regions of the country.

“We have also initiated a move to train women from three of the company’s affected communities in skills training including the making of detergents. The three communities include Atuabo, Asanda and Anokyi,” he added.

He revealed that the Ghana Gas Board has redefined the company’s project affected areas to mean the whole country.

“This is because gas from the company could find itself in Tamale. There has been some incidents of gas explosion in some part of the country and it can happen that the product might have been from the company.

“So the company has earmarked one million Ghana cedis for each of the 16 regions for development projects,” he pointed out.
