Ghana Is Safe – Spanish Envoy

Alicia Rico Pérez del Pulgar

SPANISH AMBASSADOR to Ghana, Alicia Rico Pérez del Pulgar, has indicated that the country remains one of the stable and safe nations in Africa in spite of its recent security challenges.

She indicated that “Ghana is a very stable and peaceful and democratic country.”

Ambassador Perez del Pulgar was speaking on the Starr Chat show on Wednesday, March 13, 2019.

Speaking during the show hosted by Bolay Ray and monitored by DGN Online, the Spanish envoy said she felt safe living in Ghana.

She was part of a number of diplomats former President John Mahama hosted in February 2019 on the Ayawaso West Wuogon shooting incident.

Mr. Mahama had hosted the diplomats at the Peduasi Presidential Lodge in Aburi, Eastern Region, to apparently project the country as insecure under Mr. Akufo-Addo.

But Ambassador Perez del Pulgar insisted that Ghana remains safe.

The envoy backed President Akufo-Addo’s steps aimed at addressing the menace of political vigilantism.

She believed that President Akufo-Addo’s call for a dialogue between the NPP and NDC on the disbandment of party vigilantes was in the right direction.

She indicated that Ghana has for many years remained peaceful and stable and anything that stand to pose a negative effect on its image will appear “worrisome” for the citizenry.

That notwithstanding, she says the diplomatic community is of the view that Ghana is safe to live.

Her interview on the Starr Chat centered on Spain and Ghana’s bilateral relationship which started in 1967.

Growing Business Relationship

According to the Ambassador, as at 2010, there only seven Spanish companies registered and doing business in Ghana.

Interestingly, she said the number of Spanish businesses operating in Ghana has risen to about 50, noting that “there is more and more interests and there are lots of possibilities in Ghana.”
