Kid model Simona Osei, daughter of rapper Strongman
The maiden edition of the ‘Ghana Models Awards Juniors’ will come off on September 24, 2022, at The Burg at La, Accra.
Organisers of the ceremony announced this in Accra over the weekend.
Founder of Ghana Models Awards Juniors, Jerry Wonder Sampson, has said that the separation of kid models from the main ‘Ghana Models Awards’ was to give a bigger room for more kid models to be encouraged and honoured for their hard work.
The event will celebrate a wide range of kid models from runway modelling to commercial and editorial modelling.
So far, 16 categories have been published with a total of 29 nominees vying for a variety of top honours. The official slogan for the event is “Celebrating Our New Borns, Protecting the Future.”
Stressing the importance of separating and expanding the category of modelling for kids, he added that it was necessary as the survival of the modelling industry depended on it.
“To continue the cycle of production of professional models, we must acknowledge the fact that some amount of focus needs to be given to our kid models. Because they are the seeds which will germinate and grow into professional adult models.
“Therefore, without ensuring that we are planting more seeds, we may one day wake up to an industry of retired professional models, with no one left to continue their legacy and the profession,” he explained.
The criteria for the selection of nominees included evidence of professional work done in the previous year (2021). Some rules allowed nominees without professional modelling job portfolios to participate as talents with huge potential.
The Ghana Models Awards Juniors has been well received by stakeholders of the Ghana modelling industry; from models, and parents of the kids to Corporate Ghana.
Cosmetics giant ‘Ghandour Cosmetics’ and ‘Flora Tissues’ have pledged their support for the event as sponsors and partners.
