Ghana Mourns Rapper DMX

US rapper and actor DMX’s death has left millions around the world in shock.

The legendary rapper, who was born Earl Simmons, died on Friday, five days after suffering a heart attack.

He had been placed on life support and died with his family by his side.

He was 50, and is survived by 15 children, according international media reports.

In a statement, his family said he was “a warrior who fought till the very end.”

“Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world, and his iconic legacy will live on forever,” they said.

DMX, aka Dark Man X, was a leading hip-hop performer who collaborated with artistes such as Jay Z, Ja Rule and LL Cool J.

He took his moniker from the name of a drum machine used in rap tracks, according to a BBC report.

The chart-topping artiste’s songs included ‘Party Up’ (‘Up In Here’) and ‘X Gon’ Give It To Ya’.

He also acted on screen, appearing in such films as ‘Cradle 2 the Grave’, ‘Romeo Must Die’ and ‘Exit Wounds’.

He died at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, New York.

A number of showbiz personalities took to their social media platforms to celebrate his memory. Among them Ice Cube, Gabrielle Union, Missy Elliot, and a host of others including some Ghanaian celebrities such as Stonebwoy, Reggie Rockstone, Promzy Afrika and host of others.

“The music shall forever Live! Legends Never Die 90s Hip Hop 4 Life. @dmx,” Stonebwoy wrote under the late rapper’s performance video he shared on his Instagram.
