The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) in collaboration with Go Create Africa has held a conference on the music industry in Ghana.
The conference was under the theme Digitization of the Ecosystem and took place on Tuesday, December 21 at the Villa Boutique Hotel in Osu.
Speakers at the conference included Asha Gangali, MD of Go Create Africa; international journalist with Metro TV and BBC, Afua Adom, and Tengol Kplemani, CEO of Boundaryless Music and The Taste of Africa.
Topics discussed included Data Management, Copyright Protection, and Issues, and Royalty Collection.
The MD of Go Create Africa, Asha Gangali noted that the technology is to ensure efficient collection and administration of royalties for the benefit of rights owners.
The President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) expressed their solidarity with the initiative by MUSIGA to digitize the music ecosystem in Ghana.
Acting MUSIGA President Bessa Simons said this development is timely considering the various efforts being made to improve the collection management system in Ghana.
He called on all stakeholders to get on board to ensure the proper development of the music industry in Ghana.
Another speaker, Efua Adom who is an international journalist and music executive noted that with the exodus towards digitalization, it’s essential that Ghanaian musicians acquaint themselves with what is happening so that they can also maximize the opportunities open to them.
Other speakers included Tengol Kplemani, CEO of The Taste of Africa, and Richmond Adu- Poku of GAPI.
