Ghana Supply Company Makes Strides

Ghana Supply Company Limited (GSCL) is making progress after four years of challenges.

The company’s performance from 2014 to April 2017 was nothing to write home about.

Speaking in an interview with BUSINESS GUIDE on Friday in Accra, Abraham Binampadam Jawol, Managing Director of GSCL, stated: “When I assumed the office, the company’s situation had deteriorated to the extent that we were heavily indebted and we had to settle some of the debts. We are stabilizing the company.”

He further explained that though the company was picking up gradually after stabilizing, the lack of funds and negligence on the part of government to invest and recapitalize the company were some of the issues the company was faced with.

“We do freight forwarding and clearing but some state agencies prefer the services of private companies than us,” he said.

According to the Managing Director, “By end of 2019, when things fall in line, these will further stabilize the company to move forward.”

“Since I came, efforts have been made in writing to the State Enterprises Commission while proposals have been sent to most state-owned companies and these have started responding.”

He further stated that “we intermittently train procurement professionals at the various department agencies and that of private organizations. We are planning to have at least four training sections for procurement professionals at their various units and these are refresher courses. We also do training in store management.”

Ghana Supply Company was incorporated in 1999 as a procurement agency for the state.

GSCL is committed to international competitive bidding principles, including transparency and value for money.
