Ghana to host 15 ECOWAS Heads of State

Ghana is expected to play host to about 15 Heads of State of the West Africa.

The leaders will be attending the ECOWAS 59th ordinary session in Accra, the capital of Ghana.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, made this known to the media on Monday, June 14, 2021.

Addressing the press from the information ministry, she announced that the summit is expected that all heads of state of ECOWAS with the exception of Mali are due to attend the summit.

Another guest attending the summit is former President of Nigeria, and ECOWAS mediator to Mali, Goodluck Jonathan, says Madam Ayorkor Botchwey, adding that at the end of the summit, a communique will be issued.

ECOWAS meets twice a year, at the very beginning of the year and the middle of the year.

The session will deliberate on important regional matters including recent events that threatens security in the region, the minister said.

According to the minister, the ordinary summit will begin from Tuesday 15 to Saturday, 19th of June,m.

She explained that there will be the 46th ordinary session of the ECOWAS mediation and security of ministers at the ordinary session.

The summit of the heads of state will be held at the Kempinski Hotel, according to the minister.

She stated that the other meetings will be held at the Movempick Ambassador Hotel.
