Louisa Bema Nana Boakye and IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare
The work of the current IGP of Ghana, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, continues to attract the attention and commendation of Ghanaians abroad, especially those based in the jurisdictions where police service is effective due to the democratic systems practiced there.
The latest is from a U.S.-based political activist, Louisa Bema Nana Boakye.
According to the New York-based activist, many Ghanaians abroad can now take a sigh of relief as their wish for the country to be in a state of law and order is being realized as the police chief continues to demonstrate knowledge of his job without fear or favor.
Ms. Boakye is of the view that, if Ghana would attain significant development in its socio-economic strides, the law must be enforced to the letter as it pertains in advanced jurisdictions. In that regard, she cautions the IGP to stand his ground in discharging his constitutional duties even when brought under the Executive pressure.
She posits that in the case of the United States, for example, even though a police commissioner is appointed by the mayor of a city, he does his job independently devoid of executive influence. It’s, therefore, her prayer that Dr. Dampare would continue to show leadership in the fight against crime and lawlessness in the country and restore public respect for the men and women in uniform.
Ms. Boakye is thankful to the president, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo for such a miraculous appointment that also shows that the president truly has the wellbeing of the country at heart.
