Jamal and Kamal Abubakari aka Lancaster and Arrangement
One of the two Ghanaian socialites arrested in the United States by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over their alleged involvement in a romance scam, Jamal Abubakari, known as ‘Arrangement’, has been remanded into US Marshals custody by order of Magistrate Judge William E. Fitzpatrick, pending his next hearing over his involvement in a romance scam.
His twin brother, Kamal Abubakari, also known as ‘Lancaster’, is expected to be released and deported as he reportedly faces no charges.
A screenshot of the court document from the first court appearance showed that ‘Arrangement’ was arrested and presented before the District Court on May 1 before Judge William E. Fitzpatrick.
At his first hearing, contrary to earlier reports, he was represented by Federal Public Defender Lauren Rosen, not the Virginia-based law firm he had allegedly retained for $100,000.
He was informed of his rights, charges, and possible penalties, and ‘Arrangement’ reportedly requested that the case be heard in the Eastern District of Virginia.
The Ghanaian was remanded into the custody of US Marshals to reappear before Magistrate Judge Ivan D. Davis.
They claimed that Lancaster faced no charges and was set to be deported.
Jamal Abubakari and Kamal Abubakari are Ghanaian twins who were arrested by the FBI in the US over alleged fraudulent activities. They were apprehended upon arrival in the US, reportedly to collect $2 million.
The twins, known for flaunting luxury vehicles and cash on social media, are facing federal fraud charges, which could lead to significant prison sentences if convicted.
Their lavish lifestyle, often showcased online, has sparked mixed reactions, with some calling their decision to travel to the US “unwise” given the ongoing FBI crackdown on Ghanaians involved in similar scams. Showboy, a Ghanaian socialite and musician, criticised the twins, saying they should have been more cautious.
