Ghana could host Somalia in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at either the Accra Sports Stadium or the Essipong Sports Stadium, Acting National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Prof. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong has revealed.
The Black Stars are set to face Somalia in a double-header during the November international break, covering Matchdays 3 and 4 of the qualifying campaign.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Prof. Sarpong said the NSA has received official correspondence naming the Accra Sports Stadium as the venue, but the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is pushing for a switch to the Essipong Sports Stadium in the Western Region.
“The game can be played either at the Accra Sports Stadium or at the Essipong Sports Stadium,” he said, adding that a meeting would be held and a decision made by the close of day.
Ghana host the first game on Thursday, November 12, with the return fixture following on November 16. Both matches are expected to be played on Ghanaian soil.
The Black Stars go into the double-header under pressure. Successive defeats to Ivory Coast and The Gambia in October left them without a point after their opening two Group C games.
The four-time African champions need maximum points to revive their qualification hopes and avoid missing a second consecutive AFCON, having failed to reach the 2025 finals in Morocco.
The Essipong Sports Stadium recently hosted the Black Queens’ win over Malawi in the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers.
