Around the world, waterfalls allow for incredible viewing, leaving people gazing in awe and reaching for the camera. They showcase nature at its most picturesque and are regularly flanked by dazzling landscapes. And the situation is not different in Ghana.
The country is abound with scenic features that delight nature lovers. Indeed, Ghana means many things to different people. Visiting waterfalls in Ghana provides the ideal motivation to explore new surrounds.

Boti Falls
The 30 metre-high Boti Waterfalls is located at Boti in Manya Krobo, Eastern Region. A flight of 250 steps takes you to the lower part of the falls. A 20-minute hike away, you’ll find the suspended umbrella rock and the three-headed palm tree. There are seasonal fluctuations but from June to August the falls flow pretty consistently. The waterfalls are twins, known as male and female, and whenever they merge (mate), there’s a rainbow formation. There’s food and accommodation at the forest reserve of Huhunya; which is about 17 kilometres northeast of Koforidua, where the Boti Falls can be found.

Akaa Falls
The beautiful Akaa Falls is only seven kilometres away from Boti Falls. It is seasonal and accessed by 250 concrete steps to the bottom where the water can fall around you from three different sides if the pressure is good. During optimal flow, you will be surrounded in the magnificent spouting canyon. Visit Akaa for a beautiful experience.

Ote FallsÂ
The waterfall is located about 45km from Ho and offers an impressive hiking opportunity. Getting to the falls is both interesting and challenging; hikers have to take a muddy and sleepy footpath, use ropes in parts to get through the lush forest to the pool separating the upper and lower falls. Hikers who are more ambitious go further down the valley, said to be home to black and white colobus monkeys. The fall is about 80m tall and formed naturally on a canyon rock. The fall is located in Eastern part of Amedzofe close to Ho. It is actually two falls. The main fall, which is higher, is the one located at Amedzofe. Kintampo Falls
The Kintampo Waterfalls is located on the Pumpu River, a tributary of the Black Volta. It is about four kilometres away from the Kintampo township. It is among some of the highest waterfalls in Ghana. The falls is hidden in the forest and it’s formed by three main drops with a height of 72m or 230 feet which flows into the Black Volta. The Kintampo Falls is also a fine resting place when travelling between Kumasi and Tamale or Mole National Park. People can go into the pool under the waterfall.

Fuller Falls
This is also located in Kintampo. It falls gently over a series of cascades along the river Oyoko at Yabraso. These falls have an upper and lower falls. The surroundings of the Fuller Falls provide for the visitor a wonderful peaceful scenery and a refreshing pool to take a dip and a place to just relax quietly. It is relatively less visited but actually more serene.

Wli Falls
The Wli Falls is the highest water falls in Ghana and West Africa. It has an upper and lower fall. It is about 20km from Hohoe in the Volta Region and it’s nested in the Wli Natural Reserve. Unlike the others which are seasonal, the Wli Falls flows throughout the year. There is also an upper falls at Wli which is quite strenuous to reach but if you’re adventurous and determined, you can reach that rarely visited upper falls which is breathtaking. There are a couple of guesthouses at the falls for an overnight stay. You are always welcome to Wli.

Tagbo Falls
Like the nearby Wli Falls, Tagbo Falls, located at Liate Wote, flows from the Ghana-Togo mountain range. It is an easy 45-minute walk through forest and cocoa trees to reach these scenic falls that are covered by a lush green carpet of vegetation. While at the scenic highland village of Liate Wote, you can make a very strenuous hike to the top of Mount Afadjato, Ghana’s tallest peak. It is also less difficult to visit a nearby snake zoo.

These falls are located in the Dodowa Forest, near to the Shai Hills Wildlife Reserve. The enchanted Dodowa Forest is the battlefield of the Kantamanso War which ended in 1826. The defeat of the Great Ashanti warriors on August 7, 1826 marked the end of Ashanti domination of the then Gold Coast. The giant baobab tree at the edge of Dodowa is where the ceremony was held to mark the end of conflict. After about a 45-minute hike in the forest, you will come to this beautiful waterfall which drops from a height of about 250 feet, running on stratified rocks into a clear pool.

Buoyem Falls
This fall is located in the dry semi-deciduous forest in the small rural community of Buoyem in the Techiman Municipality. It is part of a site that also offers an exciting habitat tour package of sandstone rocks and caves and Rosetta fruit bats. The fall is a good 30-minute trek into the hills of Buoyem, which lies on the outskirts of Techiman. The trek is worth the sweat since aside the breathtaking falls, you might be enchanted by a rock in the shape of Africa and another in the shape of an umbrella in the surroundings. Visitors can enjoy cave exploration, bat sightseeing and exciting hiking tours. Accommodation and food are available at the guesthouse and visitor centre.
Tini Waterfalls
Tini Waterfalls is located in Adasawase, a small farming village in the Eastern Region, about five kilometres off the Anyinam road. The discovery of the waterfall is attributed to a fetish priest and ancestors while searching for water. After their discovery, they decided to settle at the foothill of the water falls. Tini Waterfalls was given its name by the local people after its source, River Tini. It cascades beautifully over several rocks before hitting the ground and has a height of 60m and seven metres wide. It’s surrounded by a virgin forest, caves and rocks. The forest is home to different species of birds who welcome visitors with their melodious voice. Make Tini one of your choice locations to visit in Ghana.
