GHS Recording More Covid-19 Infections

The Ghana Health Service is recording an increase in the number of Covid-19 infections following the confirmation of the Onicron variant in the country a few weeks age.

According to the GHS, it has moved from recording as low as 24 cases in a day to as high as 509 in the last three weeks.

Data from the health service also indicated that 37 deaths have been recorded within the period pushing the death toll from 1,228 on December 1 to 1,265 on December 17.

The number of active cases has also increased from 692 to 2,428 in the last three weeks.

Severe cases on admission at the Intensive Care Units (ICU) as of December 17 stood at 24 with none in critical condition, the GHS data showed.

The Greater Accra Region has the highest number of cases with 72,364 infections, Ashanti region with 20,815, while the Western region recorded 7,551 cases.

Ghana, on December 1, recorded its first case of the Omiricon Variant, since then, 34 cases of the variant have been recorded at the Kotoka International Airport with seven cases detected in the community.

The health service is calling on the unvaccinated public to visit the vaccination centres and get their jabs to protect themselves and their loved ones.

It also advised the public to observe the protocols and protect themselves during the festive season.
