GIS Honours U-19 Coach

The Immigration Ladies Association (IMMILAC), of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at special event acknowledged and honoured Anita Wiredu-Minta on her appointment by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as the head coach of the National U-19 women’s football team.

The ceremony held at the headquarters of the Ghana Immigration Service in Accra brought together officers from the various security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service and some officials of the Ghana Football Association and the Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, Doreen Annan.

Among some of the positions held by Anita Wiredu-Minta, who was recruited into the service in 2002, include Second in Command, Sports Section at GIS, Welfare Officer for Black Queens, Assistant Coach for Immigration Ladies, Assistant Coach for Ghana Black Queens, and in April 2024 appointed as Head Coach for Ghana’s U-19 football team.

The Acting President of the Ghana Immigration Ladies Association (IMMILAC), Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) Maud Anima Quainoo said the honour was aimed at empowering and supporting women to pursue their dreams and develop their talent.

She said such recognition apart from encouraging the individual also inspires others and create a sense of unity, while highlighting the need for people to contribute meaningfully in their area of work.

She described Anita Wiredu-Minta as a trailblazer whose appointment is a testimony of hard work and commitment to excellence having demonstrated that dreams were possible to achieve with discipline, determination and perseverance.

While extolling her for exemplary dedication to work over the years, she expressed confidence that Anita would bring to bear her wealth of experience on her new role, inspire and empower the young women under her charge to achieve their full potential.

Comptroller General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Kwame Asuah Takyi also lauded the officer for her dedication and excellence in projecting the image of GIS and the security services as a whole.

He also used the opportunity to commend all GIS officers who participated in the just ended African Games held recently in Accra for their outstanding performance.

Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ama Brobbey Williams, in her remarks, also described Anita as an exceptional individual who has dedicated her passion, skill and leadership to advancing women’s game in Ghana.

In a response, Anita Wiredu-Minta thanked GIS and the Ghana Football Association for the recognition and support given her over the years.

She said the recognition served as a motivation for her to continue to strive for excellence as well as making meaningful contribution to the service and the country.

Anita was presented with a plaque, a special parcel and promoted by management of GIS as Head of the Sports Section.
