GIS Intercepts 25 Bags Of Cocoa Beans In Bunkpurugu

Officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at the Bunkpurugu Sector Command in the North East Region, have intercepted 25 bags of cocoa beans being smuggled to Togo.

According to GIS, the cocoa beans were being smuggled from Kauk, a border community, to Togo via an unapproved route.

The Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Bunkpurugu Sector Command and the Operations Commander, upon a tip off, quickly mobilised eight other officers to the said village to lay ambush, where 25 bags of cocoa beans which were being smuggled to Togo were intercepted.

The two unregistered Motorking tricycles carrying the cocoa beans have been impounded and in the custody of the Ghana Immigration Service, Bunkpurugu.

ACI Edwin Adetey Doku (OIC), DSI Emmanuel D. Banyaa, Inspt Solomon Dogbakye, Asst Inspt Zakaria Haruna, AICO I Philimon Kankamba, AICO I Siaw Obrimpong, AICO II Ernest Opuni, AICO II Ernest Tabiri, AICO II Rufai Alhassan, AICO II Thomas Gamur, are the officers who embarked on the operation to intercept the smuggled cocoa beans.

Meanwhile, two senior officers and two junior officers were detailed to escort the intercepted cocoa beans to Tamale, to be handed over to Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

In addition, an officer of the Customs Division was added to the escort team to safeguard the intercepted goods.
