Give Peace A Chance In Bawku

We have observed subtle efforts and encouragingly so, by state actors in conjunction with the major players in the Bawku conflict towards restoring permanent peace in this restive part of the country.

We are excited and pray that this time around, the efforts would yield sweet fruits in this historical trading hub where bloodletting has become a feature.

It is not in the interest of both factions and the country as a whole that the killings are ceased forthwith.

Nobody-safe gunrunners and wicked politicians would profit from this bloody enterprise of gunrunning and murders. For those who do not know, the conflict is a major source of income for negative minded persons who can only encourage the actors to continue killing each other in a conflict which is anything but sensible and productive.

It is now beginning to dawn upon the youth on both sides of the divide in Bawku that there must be a closure to the conflict, a realisation for which we can only doff our hats for them.

The amount of money government is expending in maintaining peace in the town can only be imagined. This money could have been expended in other useful ventures that would impact positively on the lives of the people.

Imagine the foolishness in apportioning points to those who kill. Information we have indicates that those who manage to kill influential persons are apportioned more points than when they end the lives of ordinary persons. Why should such senselessness be allowed to fester in a modern society?  Christianity and Islam, two Abrahamic faiths to which we individually belong, abhor such criminalities and bloodletting, yet it continues.

There appears to be light at the end of a hitherto dark tunnel and peace shall return as clergymen, good spirited politicians, traditional rulers and others are working behind the scenes towards the return of peace in Bawku.

We are aware that it is not in the interest of diabolic persons who are profiting from the carnage for peace to return. Such persons would do all that they can to stall the efforts. Let us all expose such persons for our general good.

We are many, they are a few, the carnage cannot continue indefinitely, the time for a closure is now.

We call on those who have the love for town, municipality and the country and humanity at large, to support all peace-restoring efforts in Bawku.

Those who support the festering of the restlessness are enemies of this country because, weakening the security of Bawku, which is close to the terrorist-infested hotspots in the Sahel, will be softening the grounds for the bad guys to not only set their sights on us, but make incursions.

We are worried about the aftermath of the cessation of the killings. What happens to the sophisticated weapons now in the hands of non-state actors some of whom are said to be hiring them to armed robbers?

Let those fueling the conflict spend the monies they are expending in the acquisition of machineguns on boreholes and roofing of schools. These and others are what the people of Bawku need, not firearms and bullets. Phew!!!
