GJA Media Awards Launched In K’si

The five-member committee to determine award winners

THE ASHANTI regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has launched its Media Awards in Kumasi, amid pomp and pageantry.

The award ceremony, which is aimed at honouring and acknowledging hard-working journalists, is scheduled to take place in Kumasi in May, this year.

Distinguished journalists and media organizations will be rewarded by the GJA for living up to expectation during the year under review (2018).

Journalists in the region, including the print and the electronic media, can submit their work during 2018 for consideration latest by 5pm on February 28, 2019.

The chairman for the event, the Bantamahene, Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia VI, expressed worry over violent attacks on journalists in the country. He therefore entreated the state, media institution owners and all other stakeholders to come out with a clear policy to protect journalists to do their work in peace.

He stated that journalists are playing crucial roles to advance the country’s   developmental agenda so they should be protected at all times.

The Ashanti GJA Chairman, Kingsley Hope, said his administration wanted journalists to be recognized and rewarded for their hard work, hence the decision to come out with the awards.

He said a five-member committee has been instituted to determine the award winners and they include Sebastian Frieku and Kofi Adu Domfeh.

The rest are Johnson Gyampo, Saeed Ali Yakubu and the Ashanti Regional Manager of Ghana News Agency (GNA), Madam Elizabeth.
