Organisers of the annual Ghana Music Awards USA (GMA-USA) have announced that the nominees for this year’s edition of the event who will be vying for honours at the awards ceremony will be unveiled on April 17.

BEATWAVES gathered that the date and venue for the main event will also be announced during the unveiling ceremony. This year’s event, according to the organisers, will be historic and will exceed all expectations.

The event is expected to attract a number of personalities from the creative industry in Ghana and USA as well as some of the local and international artistes.

It will provide a platform to recognise Ghanaian music stakeholders in the United States of America (USA) and Ghana who have contributed to the growth of the country’s music industry.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dons Music Production, Dennis Boafo, indicated that the nominees announcement was the platform for fans to see which of their favourite artistes made the final cut and how fans could go about voting for their favourite artistes.

According to him, this year’s edition of the awards ceremony is bound to exceed all expectations, adding that it will set the standard for awards ceremonies in the country.

He stated that despite COVID-19 restrictions, the maiden edition of the GMA-USA which was held in October last year proved to be a huge success, raising the standard for award ceremonies in the country and leaving fans and industry pundits alike asking for details about this year’s event.

“GMA-USA 2020 was beyond the scale of any other held in this country, considering it was the first time an award ceremony was held simultaneously in both Ghana and the United States,” Mr. Boafo indicated.

At the maiden edition of the awards held last year, rapper Sarkodie took home the Artiste of the Year award.

Other winners on the night were Diana Hamilton, who took home the Gospel Artiste of the Year and Gospel Song of the Year awards, Keche for Group of the Year and Kofi Kinaata, who was named Highlife Artiste of the Year. He also won the Highlife Song of the Year award for his single ‘Things Fall Apart’.

Efya and King Promise bagged the Female Vocalist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year awards respectively, while Stonebwoy emerged as the winner in the Dancehall Song of the Year and Dancehall Artiste of the Year categories among others.

Performers on the night were Fameye, Eno, Keche and comedian Waris.
