The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Foundation has supported about 400 master artisans to acquire the requisite skills to train the youth and equip them with artisanal skills.

Dominic Eduah, Chief Executive Officer of GNPC Foundation, explained that his outfit had been selecting some interested youth to be trained to acquire some employable skills as a means of empowering them economically.

He said it came to a point that the masters who had been training the artisans requested that they should also undergo some kind of training that would help them to teach effectively.

He said the Board of GNPC Foundation granted the request and that about 400 master artisans were engaged and trained in fifteen areas of artisanal skills including entrepreneurship, health and safety as well as professional code of ethics among others.

Speaking at a brief ceremony to present certificates to the beneficiary master artisans, Mr. Eduah said he was more concerned about the content of the training given the master artisans which could add value to their field of work, and said they would continue to train more masters in the coming years.

It was organised in collaboration with Aseda Foundation, a non-governmental organisation.

Lovely Newton, a beneficiary, commended Aseda Foundation and GNPC Foundation for the initiative and said they were trained in areas such as health and safety and professional code of ethics among others.

“I am a beautician and I can see that things are improving in the industry since the foundation decided to support us.

“We don’t just train the youth. After the training, GNPC Foundation will also assist them to be able to set up their own businesses so they will not go about wondering how they could start business,” she said.
