In a groundbreaking move for the world of sports, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghana National Service Scheme.

This strategic partnership aims to deploy service personnel to key sports organisations, revolutionising and advancing Ghana’s sports sector.

At a brief but significant ceremony, the Sports Minister emphasised the potential of service personnel, who will contribute their skills and expertise in areas such as marketing, physiotherapy, psychology, finances, social media, and content creation, among others.

The ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical experience, enhancing the positioning, promotion, and branding of various sports clubs and federations, enabling them to compete on a global scale.

The minister also indicated that, the objective of the partnership, “is to facilitate the deployment of service personnel to various sectors within these sports organisations under the Sports Support Module. These dedicated individuals will contribute their skills and expertise in areas such as marketing, physiotherapy, psychology, finances, social media, and content creation among others.”

The aim, he added, “is to synergise academic knowledge with practical experience to enhance the positioning, promotion, and branding of our clubs and federations, enabling them to compete on a global scale.”

The minister called on all stakeholders to grasp the opportunities presented by this collaboration and work diligently to derive maximum benefits.

He stressed that with collective efforts, youth and sports development in Ghana could reach unprecedented heights.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Service Scheme, Osei Assibey Antwi, acknowledged that the collaboration is a first-of-its-kind initiative.

He pointed out that modern minds are required to help with the administration and branding of sports institutions.

Antwi emphasised the critical role of marketing in sports clubs and believed that service personnel could design innovative marketing strategies to generate interest and attention for local leagues in Ghana.

This, in turn, is expected to strengthen sponsorship drives for the league. Prof. Peter Twumasi, the Director General of the National Sports Authority, expressed his strong support for the initiative, noting that the collaboration would ensure the Authority receives the required number of personnel for the day-to-day administration of sports activities and it will serve a major boast for the various sporting federations.

The Chairman of GHALCA, Kudjoe Fianoo, expressed his excitement about the initiative and indicated the tremendous impact the move will be to the Premier League Clubs.

This historic partnership underscores Ghana’s commitment to promoting sports development and nurturing young talents, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application.

It is a testament to the nation’s dedication to fostering a new era in sports administration and management, creating a platform for local leagues to shine on the global stage.
