Government, in partnership MTN, has pledged to build a 600-unit girls’ dormitory for the Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO).
The project is expected to be carried out in two phases—phase I which will start in 2019 will see the completion of a 300-unit girls’ dormitory while phase II will start in 2020 with the completion of the remaining 300- units of the dormitory.
As part of the project, a complete bungalow will be built for the house mistress of the school to enable her to keep and maintain a closer watch, monitoring and supervision of the girls.
Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who was the guest of honour at the 24th Speech & Prize-Giving Day and 65th anniversary of the school’s cadet corps, made this known to the school.
He further revealed that the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) has also agreed to put up a six-unit classroom block for the school to augment the already existing classroom blocks in the school.
Dr. Bawumia reiterated government’s resolve to protect the poor and vulnerable through the implementation of policies and programmes such as Free SHS and the restoration of the teacher and nursing trainee allowances, ‘planting for food and jobs’ and the other pro-poor policies.
He stated that government would continue to provide adequate infrastructure in order to enable educational institutions to provide quality education.
The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, thanked the vice president for securing the various infrastructure projects for TAMASCO.
He admonished the students to take their studies seriously because they are the future leaders of the country, assuring them of government’s commitment in making education affordable and free for every Ghanaian child.
Mr. Saeed applauded the students for their peaceful co-existence and encouraged them to be disciplined in all their endeavours.
