GRA officials and members of the Parliamentary Press Corps
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has taken steps to educate journalists on the intricacies of taxation, with a training workshop aimed at enhancing their understanding of tax laws and procedures.
The event, which brought together members of the Parliamentary Press Corps, was designed to equip journalists with the knowledge and skills necessary to accurately report on tax-related issues, and educate them on the GRA’s mandates, processes, and procedures.
Deputy Commissioner of GRA in charge of Operations, Daniel Edisi, explained that the workshop was a response to the critical role the media plays in shaping public opinion and setting the agenda for public discourse.
“We recognise the importance of the media in informing the public about taxation, and we want to ensure that they have the right information to do so accurately,” Mr. Edisi said.
The training covered various aspects of taxation, including domestic taxes, custom operations, and tax laws. Participants were also given the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on specific issues.
Mr. Edisi encouraged journalists to take advantage of the training to gain a deeper understanding of taxation, enabling them to report with clarity and confidence.
According to him, the workshop is part of the GRA’s efforts to promote transparency and accountability in taxation, and to support the media’s critical role in shaping public opinion.
Mr. Edisi commended the leadership of the Parliamentary Press Corps for their commitment and vision, which has energised the press corps with renewed purpose and focus.
The event was a collaboration between the GRA and the Parliamentary Press Corps, with the goal of demystifying the concept of taxation and equipping participants with the right information to inform their reporting.
